5 Big Benefits of a Small School

5 Big Benefits of a Small School

It’s Not Too Late to Have It All

Ivy Academia may be small in size, but our offerings and benefits are anything but. Our size is precisely what allows us to offer tuition-free academics, support that fits the individual, and a community that cares. Here are five big benefits you can expect when your child attends our TK-8 in Woodland Hills, California. Even better- it’s not too late to enroll. Don’t settle for anything less than the best for your child’s education.

1. Everyone Knows Your Name

At Ivy Academia no child slips through the cracks. Their social and emotional needs are known by all staff and the characteristics that make them special are appreciated. Our students know each other well, too: our small school TK-8 model enables students to spend years together, developing close friendships and sharing developmental stages and milestones.

2. Customized Support

Our smaller student base enables our teachers to understand the academic struggles and strengths of their students, and they have the time to creatively respond with opportunities for enrichment or support.

3. High Quality Education

With the amount of care and quality we give each of our students, it’s hard to believe that Ivy Academia is a free public school, but we are! Besides strong academics, we offer sports and clubs. You can choose from basketball or soccer or how about eSports? We also host amazing clubs like “Be a Friend” and robotics in Makerspace.

4. Entrepreneurship Focus

What is an entrepreneurial focus? We teach students life skills— including critical thinking, teamwork, tenacity, finances and money management—that translate into business skills. Within the entrepreneurship approach, our engaged TK-8 tuition-free school gets together for Ivy Community. Through the Ivy Community, students learn about resume writing and interview skills, business law, public speaking, leadership, management and customer service. They have jobs, pay bills, learn about law enforcement, and explore the court system.

5. Our Families

We are a tight knit community where staff and teachers know every student - and their families - by name. Ivy Academia parents love the high level of partnership they experience with our teachers and staff to support student learning. Parent contact with classroom teachers is easy in our small school. There is frequent communication between teachers and parents about student performance, and parent help is welcomed. At Ivy Academia there are many ways families can get involved - from joining our School Site Council, Alternative Schools Foundation, School Wellness Committee, or English Learner Advisory Committee to volunteering in the classroom. We value and welcome close relationships with our students’ families.
