Students Give Big Through Community Service

Ivy Academia may be a small, tuition-free TK-8 public school – and we like it that way – but we give BIG! Our goal is to give back to our community on a monthly basis. Here are some of the ways we reach out:

Host a pet supply drive for Rockin’ Pet Rescue, a local animal rescue organization. Dogs and cats waiting for their forever home need a clean space to sleep and food to eat. We collect pet items to care for them during this stressful time.

Collect canned foods for West Valley Food Pantry. Our first collection of non-perishables is around Thanksgiving time but given the busy holiday season, we also donate in December and January to help replenish the empty shelves.

Stuff and dress teddy bears for Operation Gratitude's Battalion Buddies. These cuddly bears are distributed to the children of deployed service members to comfort them while their loved ones are so far away.

Partner with Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel for the Second Annual Valley Day of Service, working with dozens of community groups and nonprofits to bring folks together to assist with service projects around the San Fernando Valley. Assembling homeless outreach kits, transporting and sorting food items for the SOVA Food Pantry, picking up trash in community spaces, and even painting a local teen center are some of the projects that need our help.

Spin Halloween around and host a Reverse Trick-or-Treat. We collect candy to be distributed at Children’s Hospital LA for trick-or-treating.

We Give…Thoughtfully

At our engaged TK-8 tuition-free school, we not only want to give back to our community, but we want to do it thoughtfully. We believe it’s important to understand that there are many ways to give and support your community. In fact, the “S” in our PUMAS Core Values stands for Service. Yes, you can write a check but there are other ways to give back, too.

Giving back through service increases a sense of belonging and community. Collecting and donating food, whether it’s for people or their furry companions, takes effort but every can counts toward one more full and happy tummy. Regifting small toys means sharing the fun they’ve brought to you with someone else. Sharing candy means sharing the joy that comes from such a small treat.
